Hokkaido Day 1!
Yesterday was our first day ever in Hokkaido!! It's cold, but not really any colder than Cincinnati gets, although we're outside a lot more here!
We spent most of the day on trains and buses getting from Sapporo to the center of the island, which is bigger than it looks! Everyone's been really friendly here. A couple of obasans heading to the same lake as us chatted us up on the bus, and reassured us that our connecting bus would wait for us (our bus was running late, icy roads). Central Hokkaido seems very inaka (countryside), but even with snow covering everything I can tell the scenery is beautiful!
We took a bus all the way up around a mountain to get to a lake that was completely frozen over and had an ice village built above it. And by ice village, I mean EVERYTHING was made of ice! It was incredibly awesome but COLD. The coolest part was definitely the ice bar, where even the cups were made of ice! Video will be incoming! In the meantime, here are some poorly framed afterthought photos (we hardly take pictures anymore since we usually film everything!)
[We're traveling thanks to Odigo, a Japan travel website, which is sending us and a few other vloggers to all 47 prefectures of Japan this year!!]
